It’s been a while since I did a “working on” post. Our Prayers and Squares group has been meeting and working on stuff all summer. Mostly it was on just one quilt.... an Economy Block wedding quilt. It is finally finished and I think it has been delivered to the newly weds. I am having trouble consistently getting pictures of what we are working on. We have so much fun every Thursday afternoon that time flies very quickly and before we know it the time to pack up comes around, not leaving time to lay things out for pictures ...

Over the past year, we’ve made a scrap buster block each month. On the AccuQuilt Australia blog, I shared different quilt layout options for each block to provide inspiration for how you could make a quilt from just the one block pattern – check those out here. But if you were sewing along to make a sampler quilt like me… well, now’s the time to put it together! Here’s how I made my rainbow sampler quilt…
You can find all the scrappy quilt block tutorials here.
HOT TIP
To get the same scrappy rainbow effect, I highly recommend ...
I fell in love with this quilt while rebinding it and patching a few torn pieces.
It's a great set of blocks, each one different, totally fun.
The colors are some of my favorites. I've always particularly liked combinations of purples and greens. And now I find that the combination of the teal-turquoise with purples is just as wonderful. I also enjoy the use of blue thread to quilt, even in the light background pieces.
The owner's aunt made it for her.
Here are some close-ups of the blocks. (Hint - the ones in the final photo are ...
My quilting mojo has definitely returned. While surfing various blogs last week I came across another sampler that caught my eye. I’ve seen this sampler before, but it didn’t catch my attention until last week. I saw it and fabric colours and combinations immediately started cascading in my mind. That immediately led to pulling fabric bins and cutting and assembling. Over the course of a couple of days last week I had 4 blocks done. It will be a controlled scrappy using blacks, greys, yellows and reds.
The sampler patterns are from Moda Blockheads 4. This sampler started ...
read moreFinding just the right fabrics to restore a vintage or antique quilt can be a challenge. The chances of The Exact Match are slim. It's almost always about finding fabrics that blend in as unobtrusively as possible. This is true whether using vintage or modern reproductions.
Sometimes fabrics that blend perfectly into the existing set of fabrics seem to fall into my lap, but sometimes a lengthy search ends up with settling for the better of several options.
My restoration of this Lone Star quilt (1930s) serves as an example of the fabric search stage of quilt restoration. I ...

PBA is built around Studio 180 Design tools that let you design slightly oversized units, then trim them down to the perfect size. So if you have some Studio 180 Tools lying around collecting dust or want tools that will make creating your blocks easier, these are the ones ...

I started this sampler quilt in the late 1970's.I bet you thought that we forgot about our ever-so-patiently-waiting Jacob’s Ladder blocks. It is time to do something with them!
When last we left them we had our 3 trouble maker blocks flagged so we knew what we were dealing with. Now is the time to make the decisions for what to do with these blocks. The end goal for this quilt is to have a bit of a sampler at the shop to showcase some different quilting ideas to show customers when talking about how to quilt their quilt (either by us or by them). With 15 ...
read moreWe love our renters. They bring in such lovely quilts. The one downfall for me is after seeing all these lovely quilts I now have a long list of quilts that I have to make now. I don’t know if it’s the colors or the piecing that draws my eyes more. You can tell me exactly what makes them so pretty. This is a renter roundup of some of my favorites over the last couple of months.
First up in the renter roundup: A Bright 16 Patch

Make quick Christmas Quilts with 12-inch Quilt Blocks that you forgot you had! Simple layouts translate into fast gifts or holiday decor.
Last Saturday, after writing a pattern I decided I wanted to spend the rest of the day sewing. I actually wanted to see if I could make a quilt with some test blocks I had. You know that when I test blocks I try to use similar fabrics for many of them so, down the line, I can just put them together into a quilt. That was my mood that day.
The quilt above was the first one ...
read moreIt's binding time! These six quilts need binding! Two are queen-size and the others are lap quilts. I better get busy because my LAQ has six more; three will be ready at the end of June and three will be ready at the end of July.
This pandemic has really kept me busy making quilts. I'd rather be creating than binding, but, "Oh, Well"!
May your bobbins always be full,

In all honesty, I do not need another quilt-along in my life. This one is too good to pass up though.
Moda is hosting a this quilt-along using the new book by Susan Ache (@yardgrl60 on Instagram):
"Sampler Spree: 100+ Fresh & Fun Quilt Blocks".
This is a scrappy quilt. Every week, we will make 10-12 blocks. Every week will be assigned a different color, for instance the color for week 1 is blue, so we'll make all 10 blocks using blue scraps.
You can, of course, use any fabrics and colors you choose. A couple of layer cakes would ...

This is Witches Party, the Halloween pattern I designed with my favorite Moda Fabrics collection for Halloween: Ghouls and Goodies. This is the third quilt I made with this collection (here are the other two), and I am not quite sure it will be the last. Why? Because of the bright colors, the dimensions of the motifs, the variety ...

I sent an email showing the 8 quilts I was willing to part with and asked them to choose 1 or two. Ginny chose 1, Chris chose 2, Karen picked 3, and I didn't hear from Ellen. The quilts were mailed off; then weeks later I got an email from Ellen, she'd picked a quilt and didn't hit send on her mail. There was only one quilt left and I asked if she'd accept ...

Isaiah 54:10
Earlier posts about love were teachings on how we, as God’s people, are to love one another. I didn’t want the love series to end without writing about God’s great love for all his people.
Isaiah is such a treasure trove of wisdom, hope, and prophecy. My small church group spent almost TWO YEARS studying this one book of ...
